Area of Impact - Community Empowerment

Importance of Sports and physical education cannot be denied across the globe. Research indicates that sports has the capacity to transform the lives of individuals. It reinforces physical, psychological, emotional, and social well-being and development. At the same time sport plays a significant role in cultures and communities around the world. The project’s core objective is to integrate physical education into underserved schools, starting in Karachi. It introduces an innovative strategy by equipping teachers with training in modified sports that can be conducted without the need for traditional sports facilities.

This approach ensures that even with limited resources, every 40-minute class period is maximized for the benefit of all students. Rangoonwala Foundation has been piloting this initiative, in partnership with Youth Sports International, since 2016. During this time, they have provided training to 293 teachers, engaged with 265 schools, and reached over 31,000 students as of December 2023.

Now, the Rangoonwala Foundation has developed a growth strategy for the organisation. The initiative has been established as a separate entity called Jawaan Champions. The overarching vision is a future where all children in Pakistan enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of regular participation in play, PE and sport.
